Commercial Pilot License (CPL)
The Commercial Pilot License (CPL) is the gateway to a professional flying career. Issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India, the CPL authorizes the holder to act as pilot-in-command or first officer on commercial aircraft. It is one of the most prestigious and well-compensated careers in aviation.
Course Overview
The CPL program includes ground school training, simulator training, and actual flying hours. Students start with a Private Pilot License (PPL) before progressing to CPL training. The program covers Air Navigation, Meteorology, Air Regulations, Technical General (Aircraft Systems), Radio Telephony, and actual flying on single and multi-engine aircraft. The total flying hours required as per DGCA is a minimum of 200 hours, including cross-country, night flying, and instrument flying.
Eligibility Criteria
- 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics (PCM or with Physics+Maths)
- Minimum 50% marks in Physics and Mathematics in 10+2
- Age: Minimum 17 years for PPL; Minimum 18 years for CPL
- Class 1 Medical Certificate from DGCA approved Medical Examiner
- Good eyesight (correctable to 6/6)
- No disqualifying medical conditions under DGCA CAR
- No criminal record
Course Duration & Structure
- Total CPL Program: 18 to 24 Months
- Ground School: 6–8 months (theory + written exams)
- Flying Training: 12–18 months (actual aircraft + simulator)
- Minimum Total Flying Hours: 200 hours (DGCA requirement)
- PPL Stage: Minimum 45 hours
- DGCA Theory Examinations: 7 subjects (All India basis)
- License Stages: SPL → PPL → CPL → IR + MER → Type Rating
